Unveiling B.R.A.'s Financial Framework: How Your Support Fuels Our Community Initiatives
Where Does the Money Come From?
We’re often asked: “Where do the B.R.A.’s funds come from?”
The truth is, we don’t rely on just one source. We draw on a mix of income streams to keep things running smoothly. Here’s a breakdown of where our funding came from over the past financial year:
Subscriptions & Donations – 54%
Most of our income comes from residents who pay the annual subscription and those who make generous additional contributions.
Ndasingane Permits – 20%
The sale of permits for the Ndasingane boom gate brings in a valuable portion of our income.
Support from Illovo – 17%
Illovo continues to be a vital contributor to our community efforts.
Conservation-Related Income – 7%
Our team’s work clearing invasive alien plants from private properties, along with plant sales from the Conservancy, adds to the pot.
Interest on Reserve Funds – 2%
We earn a small amount of interest from funds we hold in reserve.
How Do We Use the Funds?
We believe in being open about how your money is spent—and proud of what it achieves. Here’s how the funds were allocated:
Local Employment – 48%
We employ two full-time local staff members and bring in three to four others on a part-time or ad hoc basis. Their work includes:
- Keeping our beaches, riverbanks, and skip areas clean
- Managing the boom gate at Ndasingane
- Guarding the beach during busy periods
- Conducting snare patrols
- Clearing invasive alien plants across the village
Security (Gladiator) – 18%
We fund the monitoring and maintenance of our CCTV camera system and provide additional beach security during peak times.
Pothole Repairs – 12%
Fixing our roads is a priority for everyone’s safety and comfort.
Beach Keys, Permits & Signage – 8%
This covers the production of beach access keys, permit cards, and signage around the village.
Road Maintenance Equipment – 6%
We’ve invested in a brush cutter and chainsaw to keep vegetation from encroaching on our roads and pathways.
Camera System Upkeep – 2%
This includes upgrades, maintenance, and insurance for our town-wide CCTV network.
Invasive Species Control – 2%
We purchase herbicides and equipment to fight alien invasive plants, especially along the railway line and other public areas.
Admin & Support Services
A portion of our budget also goes towards keeping the wheels turning—website hosting and updates, managing our community database, accounting services, and other essential admin costs.
