Bazley’s rich history is intertwined with the stories of two local farms: Woolwich and Maryville. These farms have played a vital role in shaping the landscape and character of our community.
Woolwich and Maryville Farms
Woolwich and Maryville are names that resonate with Bazley residents and visitors alike. Woolwich, the original farm upon which the Bazley township was laid out, holds a special place in our history. Stretching from the T-junction to the Mdesingane River, Woolwich was initially surveyed in the 1850s, with aspiring settlers experimenting with crops like sugar, tea, coffee, cotton, and more.
The Victorian Era and Farmhouses
Maryville is the farm is on the right as you leave Malangeni, headed to Bazley, now called LV Estates. The Victorian charm of Maryville’s farmhouse, now owned by Vince Drew, is a testament to its era. The classic design features moulded doors, broekie lace, and wooden floors – a glimpse into the architectural heritage of our region.
