How to Obtain a Permit:
You can easily obtain a Sea or Saltwater Angling and Fishing License at the counter of any coastal Post Office. Here are the costs associated with various types of permits:
- Angling: R75
- Spearfishing: R94
- Castnet: R94
- Scuba Diving: R92
- East Coast Lobster (Crayfish): R94
- Mussels: R94
Here are some key points to remember:
Closed Seasons:
East Coast Lobster (Crayfish): You may not catch crayfish from 1 November to the last day of February the following year.
A daily bag of 8 pp/pd, minimum size limit of 65 mm (carapace length).
Shad: It’s prohibited to keep shad caught from 1 October to 30 November each year.
Galjoen: You may not keep galjoen caught from 15 October to 22 November each year.
Sale of Fish:
No one is allowed to sell or offer fish for sale without a valid permit issued by the Department of Sea Fisheries. This regulation is in place to ensure the sustainability of our marine resources.
