Understanding the Role of the Bazley Residents Association
The Bazley Residents Association is often approached by homeowners asking us to intervene in a wide range of matters—from crimes and security incidents to neighbour disputes, municipal problems and concerns involving individual properties.
We always want to help where we can. However, many of these matters fall outside the role and authority of the B.R.A. When we are unable to intervene, we are sometimes left feeling that we have let our community down.
The reality is that, like every other homeowner, we are simply Bazley residents. We have no special authority or enforcement powers.
What does the B.R.A. do?
The B.R.A. is a voluntary organisation run by residents and property owners who give their time to support, protect and improve our village.
Our work includes:
- Supporting and coordinating community security initiatives
- Liaising with Gladiator Security, SAPS, municipal departments and other organisations
- Raising broader or recurring concerns affecting Bazley
- Advocating for improvements to roads and municipal services
- Supporting beach cleaning, verge maintenance and other village projects
- Undertaking conservation work, including snare patrols, invasive plant removal and reporting wildlife-related concerns
- Managing the Ndasingane access and permit system
- Raising funds for community projects through initiatives such as the Shangrila Market
- Building and strengthening community relationships by hosting regular bring-and-braai gatherings
- Keeping residents informed through our website, newsletters and WhatsApp groups
We genuinely love what we do, and nothing makes us happier than rolling up our sleeves and getting our hands dirty for the good of our beloved Bazley. Your positive feedback and words of encouragement are always greatly appreciated—they remind our volunteers that their time and efforts are making a real difference.
What falls outside our role?
The B.R.A. cannot investigate alleged crimes, identify or question those involved, resolve private disputes, provide legal assistance or act on second-hand reports.
If you witness a crime, threatening behaviour, suspicious activity or another security incident, please report it directly and promptly to SAPS and Gladiator Security. The person who witnessed or experienced the incident is best placed to provide an accurate account and any information required for a formal investigation.
Water, electricity, roads and other municipal service problems should also be logged directly with the responsible authority. Although the B.R.A. may raise recurring or community-wide concerns, we cannot formally report or resolve individual service issues on behalf of homeowners.
We are also unable to intervene in disagreements between neighbours, private property matters or disputes between individuals.
Helping us use our time where it matters most
Every member of the B.R.A. committee serves voluntarily while also managing work, family and personal commitments. We therefore kindly ask homeowners to consider whether a matter falls within the Association’s role before contacting an individual committee member.
For B.R.A.-related matters, please email info@bazley.org.za and allow us a reasonable amount of time to respond.
Our website’s Useful Information page provides contact numbers for SAPS, Gladiator Security, emergency and medical services, Eskom, Ugu District Municipality, Umdoni Municipality and other important services.
