Bazley seawater declared excellent in latest quality test
We’re delighted to share the results of recent seawater testing funded by the Bazley Residents Association. The samples were analysed by the same accredited laboratory that tests Pennington’s seawater as part of their Blue Flag Beach compliance – ensuring reliable, professional standards.
The tests used the P09/046 method, which checks for bacterial indicators of sewage contamination. Here are the excellent results:
- Faecal Coliforms: 2 cfu/100ml
- E. coli: 0 cfu/100ml
- Faecal Streptococcus: 0 cfu/100ml
For context, the World Health Organisation (WHO) and South African water quality guidelines generally consider:
0–10 cfu/100ml as excellent for recreational activities like swimming.
11–100 cfu/100ml as acceptable but requiring occasional monitoring.
Over 100 cfu/100ml as potentially unsafe.
These readings place Bazley’s seawater firmly in the “excellent” category for recreational use, according to both international and South African water quality guidelines.

These results confirm that our seawater is safe for swimming and other beach activities, with no indication of faecal or sewage-related contamination.
