Everything You Need to Know About the 2026/27 Bazley Beach Permits
The 2026/27 Bazley Beach permits and keys for Ndasingane are now available for purchase and collection from Mac Nicol’s Caravan Resort.
Permit costs
The cost remains unchanged from last year:
- Permit and key set: R600
- Permit with old key returned: R500
- Lost key replacement fee: Additional R100
Please note that payment may only be made by debit or credit card.
Why a permit is required
Ndasingane Beach is open to the public, but the road leading to it crosses private land owned by Illovo Sugar (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd.
Access along this road is not an automatic right that comes with owning property in Bazley. Illovo allows residents to use the road through a formal agreement with the Bazley Residents Association, subject to clear conditions that the B.R.A. is required to manage and enforce.
The agreement specifically states that no person may enter Illovo’s property via the access road controlled by the boom without an access permit, unless they have written authorisation from Illovo or qualify under one of the limited exemptions contained in the agreement.
This means that all homeowners require a valid permit to use the Ndasingane access road, and each permit may be used for one vehicle only.
Under the agreement, the B.R.A. is responsible for:
- Issuing permits and keys
- Controlling the boom gate
- Managing permit holders and visitors
- Keeping the area clean
- Enforcing the access rules
Illovo remains the owner of the land and retains the right to restrict access or close the road. It may also terminate the agreement if the B.R.A. fails to carry out its responsibilities satisfactorily.
Our continued use of this road therefore depends on everyone respecting the permit requirements and cooperating with the boom guard. This access is a privilege made possible through Illovo’s agreement with the B.R.A., and we ask all residents to help us protect it.
Where the permit income goes
In terms of the agreement with Illovo, the proceeds from permit sales accrue to the B.R.A., which carries the cost of managing the access arrangement.
The income raised helps the B.R.A. fund projects and responsibilities in and around Ndasingane Beach, including access control, maintaining the boom and keys, keeping the area clean and undertaking necessary improvements such as repairs to the guard house.
By purchasing a permit, homeowners are therefore not only complying with the conditions of access but also contributing towards the continued care and management of this special area.
Access control
In accordance with the agreement with Illovo, the B.R.A. appoints a boom guard to control access to the road.
The guard is on duty during weekends and school holidays from 07h30 to 15h00. At other times, permit holders must use their key to unlock the boom gate.
Please ensure that the gate is locked after both entering and leaving.
Please do not place our boom guard in a difficult position by requesting access without a valid permit. He is required to enforce the conditions under which Illovo allows us to use the road.
Permits are available to Bazley residents
When purchasing your permit from Mac Nicol’s Caravan Resort, your residency will be confirmed against the B.R.A. database.
If you are a new homeowner and your details have not yet been added to the database, please contact Brenda Angus on 082 769 3287 before purchasing your permit to ensure that you are listed.
One vehicle per permit
Each permit provides access for one vehicle only. If your household wishes to use more than one vehicle to access Ndasingane, a separate permit will be required for each vehicle.
Access during or after heavy rain
Driving to Ndasingane during or immediately after heavy rain is strongly discouraged. The road can become extremely muddy and vehicles may become stuck.
If you choose to use the road in these conditions, please be aware that neither Illovo nor the Bazley Residents Association will be able to assist with recovering your vehicle. You will need to arrange and pay for a tow truck.

The reverse of the permit includes a QR code linking to the Bazley Holiday Guide, which contains helpful information for residents and visitors, including local attractions, useful tips, emergency contacts and more.
Your permit also includes:
- The NSRI emergency helpline number, should you witness anyone in distress at sea
- A QR code linking to the Bazley website, helping you stay connected with village news, important notices and local resources
- An important reminder about accessing Ndasingane during wet weather
