The Shangrila Market Has a Soul of Its Own
By Angela Mace, Chairperson of the Bazley Residents Association (B.R.A.)
I have always been a lover of markets. There is something wonderfully uplifting about wandering between stalls, discovering locally made treasures, chatting to the people behind them and enjoying good food in a beautiful setting.
But the Shangrila Market is something particularly special.
First and foremost, you simply cannot beat the setting. Held in a magnificent indigenous garden overlooking the sea, it must surely be one of the most beautiful market venues on the South Coast.
This is not a market where you rush through the stalls and head home. Shangrila invites you to stay a little longer.
Find a comfortable spot on the wraparound patio and listen to the live music, or bring along a picnic blanket and enjoy your market finds in the garden. You can even follow the short path down to the beautiful beach for a paddle in the ocean before returning for another browse.
Proudly local
Our stallholders are all local, and we are very proud of that. You will find home-baked treats, handmade products, delicious food and carefully crafted goods created by people from our own community and surrounding areas.
There are no cheap imported goods or mass-produced trinkets. The Shangrila Market is about supporting local people, showcasing local talent and offering visitors something genuine.

A market that gives back
What makes the Shangrila Market even more meaningful is that every cent raised goes towards two very worthy causes: the Bazley Conservancy and Pevensey Place, a home for adults living with cerebral palsy and other disabilities.
This includes the income received from our stallholders, as well as the proceeds from the tea and coffee station so warmly managed by the Bazley ladies.
Every cup of coffee, every stall supported and every visit helps make a difference.
So yes, our market has a soul – and those who visit tend to come back again. You will have to look long and hard to find another market quite like it.
Join us for our final market of 2026
On Sunday, 20 September, we will host our final Shangrila Market for 2026, and we sincerely hope the Bazley community will come out and support us.
Pop in for a quick browse—or, better still, spend the morning with us. Explore the stalls, enjoy something delicious, relax beneath the trees, listen to the music and take in those glorious sea views.
We promise you will not be disappointed.
