Bazley Security Alert: Rising Incidents and Community Response

Bazley has recently experienced a noticeable increase in theft incidents, with six cases reported over the past six weeks. This represents a significant and concerning shift for a community that has historically enjoyed a relatively low level of crime.

While a number of these incidents appear to have targeted homes with holiday guests, where vigilance may be lower, this is not limited to visitors — full-time homeowners have also been affected. This highlights that the current situation impacts the broader community and requires a collective response.

A clear pattern is emerging. All of the properties targeted to date are beach-facing, with perpetrators deliberately avoiding the B.R.A. camera network — monitored 24/7 by Gladiator Security — by accessing properties via the beach, where coverage is currently limited.

If you are not yet a member of Gladiator Security, we strongly encourage you to consider signing up. The strength of our security in Bazley depends on the number of residents who support it.

If you are already a client, please make sure your system is active and working as it should — it really does make a difference.

And finally, if you haven’t yet contributed to the B.R.A., your support allows us to continue investing in security, maintenance, and the protection of our village.

👉 Support the B.R.A.

The B.R.A. has issued several WhatsApp alerts in recent weeks, encouraging heightened awareness and basic security precautions. Despite these efforts, incidents have continued, prompting the need to strengthen both preventative measures and community involvement.

What the Bazley Residents Association (B.R.A.) is doing

The B.R.A. is actively working on measures to address these challenges and improve overall security coverage.

This includes investigating the expansion of camera coverage to key access points into Bazley — namely Ifafa, overlooking the bridge, and Ndasingane, overlooking the beach — in order to close identified gaps.

In addition, security presence is being increased over weekends. Additional support from Gladiator Security will assist the existing beach warden, improving both visibility and response capability during higher-risk periods.

What we as homeowners can do

Community participation remains a critical factor in maintaining effective security.

Homeowners are encouraged to consider joining Gladiator Security, as the level of service available to Bazley is directly influenced by the number of participating households. A broader base of support strengthens the overall security network and its effectiveness.

For those already making use of Gladiator services, continued vigilance is essential. Ensuring that alarm systems are consistently activated and fully operational plays a key role in enabling a rapid and effective response.

The presence of a local security responder within Bazley is a significant advantage, helping to reduce response times. Without this, reliance would fall on response vehicles travelling from neighbouring areas, which may result in delays.

It is also important to recognise the current challenges. The method of access via the beach, combined with deliberate avoidance of camera coverage and the limitations posed by weak cellphone signal in Bazley, creates a more complex operating environment.

While concerns regarding response times have been raised, these factors must be considered in context. The existing security presence remains a critical component in mitigating risk within the community.

Remaining vigilant

While Bazley remains a place where residents and visitors come to enjoy peace and natural beauty, the current situation requires increased awareness.

Simple, consistent precautions can make a meaningful difference:

  • Ensure doors and windows are secured
  • Activate alarm systems when properties are unattended
  • Remain alert to unusual or suspicious activity
  • Report concerns promptly

A community effort

In closing, thanks to those homeowners who continue to support the B.R.A. Your commitment has made it possible to establish the security measures we have in place today — and importantly, to now look at strengthening and expanding them when it matters most.
