Keeping Bazley’s roads safe for our wildlife and our people
The Bazley Residents Association (B.R.A.) recently intervened in a serious matter involving a courier vehicle travelling at excessive speed through our village—an incident that tragically resulted in the death of a bushbuck. Thanks to the vigilance of our residents and the swift action taken by the B.R.A., the matter was formally raised with the courier company Takealot, who have since acknowledged the seriousness of the incident.
Takealot extended their apologies to the community and confirmed that the driver involved has been disciplined. In addition, a mandatory toolbox talk was held with all drivers operating in our area, emphasising the importance of adhering to Bazley’s 40 km/h speed limit and being alert to the presence of wildlife, pedestrians, and children – especially as we approach the busy December holiday period.
To support safer driving this festive season, the B.R.A. has arranged for special speed-limit reminder signs to be erected throughout Bazley. These signs are intended to catch the attention of visitors and delivery drivers, reinforcing the importance of slowing down and helping protect both our wildlife and our community.
Road safety is a shared responsibility. We urge every resident to remain mindful of the speed limit and to encourage visiting friends, family, and service providers to do the same. Those who regularly receive online deliveries can also offer courier drivers a friendly reminder about our local speed restrictions.
Together, through awareness and cooperation, we can ensure that Bazley remains a safe, peaceful environment for all who call it home – including the wildlife that makes our village so special.
