UPDATE on Umdoni South Water Pipeline Project Impacting Bazley
As previously communicated, on 30 June 2024 the Bazley Residents Association (BRA) submitted our comprehensive submission to the Environmental Consultants responsible for this project. We made the submission available for your information on the Bazley website: https://www.bazley.org.za/final-submission-on-the-dbar-dated-may-2024-as-prepared-by-enviropro/
We have now received the 2nd draft of the DBAR. This seems rather unusual as typically the 1st draft becomes the final edition, however it seems there have been enough substantial comments/objections (including from BRA) that the Consultants had to address a number of fundamental issues and circulate a 2nd draft.
The documentation has increased substantially, so we have provided the two most relevant parts for Bazley – the main document (DBAR) and the Comments/Response appendix. The Comments/Response appendix contains all the comments/submissions by the various IAPs and if you scroll through you will find ours (several) with their (Enviropro) responses.

Importantly, a number of concessions and changes have been made to meet some of our demands.
The 2 most fundamental changes made are:
- The pipeline route from Ifafa along Lagoon drive has been moved to the west (inland side) of the road, thereby saving a number of driveways, roads, infrastructure and important bush.
- The pipeline route from the Reservoir down Ndesingane gravel road (to the railway line) has been moved to the north (cane field) side, thereby saving substantial forest and vegetation.
These (and other concessions) are major victories, but they are still insistent on keeping the pipeline route up Ridge/Reservoir road which we intend to object to again. We, together with the other IAPs, have until 23/8/24 to send in further submissions.
